Hello Joshi,

Yes I understand, it is allright, I was only trying to see if other people on other forums do know more.

Does that mean I can only ask questions at one forum?
If so, I don't want to waste any time of the people here on this forum.

Hallo Joshi,

ich wollte keine falschen Hoffnungen wecken, ich habe nur den Link im öffentlichen Internet gefunden und dachte nicht, daß ich damit zu weit gehe, wenn ich ihn hier hereinsetze.

@Yvon:
As I have written in my mail, we have to be careful as there are 34 Gerhard Haacks only in the German telephone directory. So it is not an uncommon name.

Gruß
merle

Hello Yvon,

I cannot imagine that anyone blames you for having posted in other forums as well and I really hope that you finally get help and find your grandfather.

Let's wait and see what the members of this forum can find out about the uniform of your grandfather and 29.VI.1944 in Voorburg (Scheveningen/Voorschoten) - who was there at the time etc.

Regards,

merle

Hi Merle,

No I can't either but I will wait, maybe I will get the answers that I need so badly.

Thank you.

Zitat:
Original von Haack
Some old story, tells me my grandfather came just over the border of Holland, Limburg.
But I don't know if that is correct.

Hello Yvonne,

don't know if it's helpful for you, but anyway, it's a hint: There's an online tool to find out where German surnames (today) originate from: GeoGen. Its data base is the German White Pages.

If you type in the surname "Haack" you can open a map showing the relative distribution (of current phone book entries) of the surname "Haack" today and another map shows you the absolute distribution.

The relative map shows you that Haack has an extremely northern German focus. So the probability is pretty high that your grandfather came from northern Germany. From where he came, is still to find out ...

Edit: The English version ...
