Bataillon Heine

ww2
Hello

I am looking for german unit called "Bataillon Heine", which got its name by commander Heine. I wonder if there is anybody who knows anything about members of this unit, particulary commander Hauptmann Heine (probably Bernd Heine). FPN of the unit was 59966 and most of the time it was subordinated to 188. reserve mountain division (139. regiment). This unit was operating in Slovenia for about a year, then it was transfered to Italy, where it became part of the 157. reserve mountain division.
Soldiers were from Austria. I would like to know more about this unit, so if someone has a relative, who was serving in this unit, please contact me or answer here on the forum.

Many thanks!

Hi "ww2",

that's right. In detail:

In March 1944, Btl. "Heine" was fighting against strong partisan groups in western Slovenia around Idrija. Btl. "Heine" was part of 188. Res.Geb.Div. then and as of March 1st, 1944, part of 188. Geb.-Div., respectively.

On Oct. 1, 1944, Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 296 was formed by renaming staff of Res.Geb.Jg.Rgt. 1 into staff Geb.Jg.Rgt. 296, by renaming Res.Geb.Jg.Btl. 100 into I./ Geb.Jg.Rgt. 296, by renaming Btl. "Heine" into II./ Geb.Jg.Rgt. 296 and by renaming HochGeb.Jg.Btl. 3, 157. Res.Div., into III./ Geb.Jg.Rgt. 296.

Geb.Jg.Rgt. 296 was subordinated to 157. Geb.Div..

In March 1945, 157. Geb.Div. was renamed into 8. Geb.Div.

Thank you Jürgen.

Is there anyone who would know more about its structure, manpower etc? Especially I am interesting about its commander - Heine.
